There are three important factors for optimal functioning of the human brain.
Mood States and your performance Laughter Yoga is a unique exercise routine that can quickly change the mood state within minutes. One doesn’t have to depend upon the natural mood states to work. Laughter has the power to generate a happy and positive state of mind, which helps one to achieve maximum functionality. Mood mainly depends upon the emotional balance and the ability to handle positive and negative emotions. If the emotional balance is negative, it will generate more negative emotions leading to stress, depression and low energy levels.By doing laughter and breathing exercises, one can kick start good hormones called endorphins that help to elevate the mood instantly and generate positive and good feelings both in the body and mind. This can change the entire perception of the outer world. Oxygen and optimal functioning of your brain When in turmoil, one experiences negative thoughts which upset the breathing, making it irregular and shallow. As a result, the body doesn't get enough oxygen. With Laughter Yoga exercises, one can learn to breathe from the belly and move the diaphragm which helps improve oxygenation. Regular practice of laughter and breathing exercises helps to increase the oxygen supply to the body and the brain and helps to keep you feeling more energetic and fresh throughout the day. LY discourages addiction Food can also change the mood and affect the state of mind. The brain needs a steady level of glucose for optimal functioning. The most common sources of glucose are sugars (sucrose), fruits and carbohydrates. Fruits and carbohydrates supply the sustained release of glucose to the brain cells. But, sugars like sweets and chocolates only give an initial high after which the insulin produced by the pancreas quickly brings down the sugar level and makes one feels lethargic and fatigued. Therefore, during working hours one must not take sugar. Instead, fruits and cereals are the best choice to supply glucose needed for peak functioning. High fats during lunch can make one listless and divert the blood circulation towards gastrointestinal tract leaving less flow of blood to the brain. One must choose low glycaemic index foods during the day like milk and milk products yoghurts pulses, beans nuts complex carbohydrates like oatmeal porridge wheat flakes rise flakes etc. Fruits like apples, pears and oranges also have low glycaemic index. Tea, coffee and cigarettes all contain caffeine and nicotine, which stimulate the central nervous system. Though providing an initial high, they bring down the energy levels, thus creating the desire for repeating them. This is habit forming and addictive. Therefore, it is advisable that during work hours, one must not drink more than 2 to 3 cups of tea or coffee and preferably without sugar. Low-fat and low sugar snacks are ideal for an in between snack like fruits, nuts and sandwiches. They will stop you from gorging on big meals. Laughter Yoga is the only guaranteed way to good mood and high energy levels. One need not resort to wrong food in order to enhance the functioning of the brain. Just get high on laughter which is the easiest and the safest way of ensuring a regular supply of oxygen to the brain for peak performance. It keeps the energy levels high, increases motivation, reduces the urge for 'binge eating' and keeps one fit both in the body and the mind. |
